Liberty Theatre to screen movie for public for the first time in almost 2 years

November 24, 2021

After almost two years of inactivity, the historic Liberty Theatre will return to action this week with a special Thanksgiving showing.

Theatre officials broke the news of their return via their web site last week, noting the Disney film, Encanto, would begin playing on Wednesday, Nov. 24, beginning at 9 a.m. The film will be shown six times on Wednesday, including at 11:30 a.m., 2 p.m., 4:30 p.m., 7 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. It will be shown three times on Thursday and Friday, starting at 4:30 p.m., and four times on Saturday, beginning at 2 p.m. It will be shown three times on Sunday, starting at 2 p.m. Concessions will open one hour prior to the start of movies.

Encanto, a 2021 release, follows the Madrigals, an extraordinary family who lives hidden in the mountains of Colombia in a charmed place called the Encanto. The magic of the Encanto has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift - every child except Mirabel. However, she soon may be the Madrigals last hope when she discovers that the magic surrounding the Encanto is in danger.

Ticket prices are $5 each.

The Liberty Theatre had been closed since 2020 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

"We are reopening in November 2021 to once again bring you one of the best entertainment experiences in southwest Oklahoma," theatre officials said via their web site.

The Liberty Theatre is the oldest continually-operated movie theatre in Oklahoma.
