Mary Lavon (Kelley) Holmes

Mary Lavon (Kelley) Holmes was born December 31, 1935, at the home of Charlie Trotter, 4 miles north, 1 mile east, and 1/2 mile north of Carnegie, Oklahoma. She was the first of six children born to Pete and Waunita Kelley and was valedictorian of her ninth grade class at Carnegie. She graduated from high school in 1954.
Mary was married to Mark Holmes on May 5, 1958, in Oklahoma City. Her husband was in the U.S. Air Force, so they lived many places, including Oklahoma, California, Alaska, Colorado and Nebraska. She was witness to the massive Good Friday earthquake in Anchorage, Alaska, in 1964.
Mary worked at insurance companies, banks and was office manager for the Resource Development Council in Anchorage, which promoted Alaska's resources. In 1991, she returned to Carnegie to retire.
Mary is survived by two sons, Barry Holmes and his wife, Carlene, of Homer, Alaska; Bruce Holmes, Scottsdale, Arizona, and two granddaughters, Meagan Burgess and her husband, Dan, and Natasha Haines and her husband, Andrew. She is also survived by four great grandchildren, as well as two sisters Karen Gross and her husband, Al, Edmond, OK, and Janelle Kelley, Carnegie, OK; and two brothers, Donald Kelley, Carnegie, OK and Doug Kelley and his wife, Dianne, Fort Worth, TX
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Gayle Hoffman, Clinton, OK; daughter-in-law, Lydia Holmes; and former husband, Mark Holmes.
Services will be held at a later date under the direction of Ray & Martha's Funeral Home, Carnegie, OK.
