Alumni return for annual Cowden reunion

The festivities began at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at the Cowden Community Building with 44 attending. Everyone brought side dishes and/or desserts, and the meat was provided by Sawatzky Catering from Weatherford. Everyone enjoyed visiting and finding friends and family in the pictures on the walls. Verdeana Weidenmaier and Jennifer Stovall were the registrars and Charlene Thornbrough took pictures.
B.R. Stephens lead the Pledge of Allegiance and gave the blessing for the meal. Annetta Newton, Alumni Secretary, welcomed the Cowden Alumni to the 36th Cowden School Reunion. The names of the 14 alumni who had passed away since the 2021 reunion were presented by Annetta Newton.

The oldest graduate was Dena Faye (Pitt) Kinder (Class of 1943); Dena Faye (Pitt) Kinder had attended the most reunions; Gene Evans and Dale McLoud traveled the farthest; The Annetta (Richey) Newton family had the most family attending and Bobbie (Adams) Clark and Danielle (Dickerson) Schmidt were the youngest students They were each presented a one-dollar gold coin in recognition.

Several donated items were auctioned and several door prizes were presented through a drawing.
Annetta thanked all who helped to make the reunion possible including Liberty Drug and The Farmer’s Bank in Carnegie; Shamrock Bank of Mountain View and Flowers by Charlene in Mountain View; First National Bank, Equity Bank, The Bank of Western Oklahoma, High Plains Bank and Jack’s Flowers and Gifts and Tractor Supply all located in Cordell and Charlene Thornbrough for taking pictures.

The Alumni voted to continue meeting yearly at the Cowden Community Building. B.R. Stephens was elected as President of the Cowden Alumni Association. Junior Dickerson was recognized for his many years of service and will definitely be missed.
